The Middle Atlantic region in the United States is located between New England and the South and includes areas of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. The Middle Atlantic Corporation was founded in 1912 and is an athletic conference that participates in the NCAA Division III. This corporation is split into 3 conferences, namely, the Freedom Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference. The 16 members that form this corporation are based out of the Middle Atlantic States. This association has been furthering collegiate sports in the Usa since its inception in 1912 with 13 members. This association continued to grow in its strength housing over fifty teams at one time. However, following the formation of the NVAA Division I,II and III in 1974, the league decreased its size.
The member team take part in 11 mens and 11 womens sports categories that include basketball, baseball, hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, swimming and tennis. They have included softball, field hockey and volleyball in the womens categories.
